Popiah & Kueh Pie Tee Stall with more than 60 Years of History at Ang Mo Kio
If you like eating Popiah, this article is for you! Recommended by our friend, Grace, we visited this time-honoured Popiah stall in the S11 coffee shop at Ang Mo Kio, Blk 530.
This outlet (and 10 other outlets) is operated by Ann Chin Popiah, which is a small family run business that has more than 60 years of history. They hold their traditional taste dearly, as their secret Popiah recipe is passed down, generation to generation, from their maternal grandfather.
Secret to a Great Popiah
According to Ann Chin Popiah’s boss, their secret to a great Popiah starts from fresh and high-quality Popiah ingredients. That is why their Popiah uses hand-made skin and house-made crispy bits. In addition, their Popiah ingredients are freshly made and sent to their stores every day!
What We Think of the Popiah and Kueh Pie Tees
We ordered 2 Popiahs ($2/popiah) and a bowl of Kueh Pie Tees, with 4 Kueh Pie Tees in each bowl ($3.50/bowl).
The Popiah’s skin was soft and tender, however it didn’t break easily because the cooked fillings retained its moisture rather well. There were also enough cooked fillings inside that you don’t feel short-changed, but not so much until it doesn’t blend well with the other ingredients. In fact, the cooked fillings, sauce, peanut, crispy bits, raw vegetables, bean sprout and egg blended together perfectly!
As for the Kueh Pie Tees, the crispy cups provided a refreshing contrast with the moist Popiah fillings. Just pop one in your mouth, and you will realise, happiness is that simple!
Even when we have finished our Popiahs and Kueh Pie Tees, we were still scooping up and enjoying the leftovers dropped on the plate and bowl! 😅
Conclusion
What we ordered were sufficient for 2 people for an afternoon snack, but you can always order more if you have a bigger appetite. Taste-wise, we give the Popiahs and Kueh Pie Tees here a thumbs up!
And if you feel Ang Mo Kio is too far, you can always visit Ann Chin Popiah’s 10 other outlets.
