We have always loved scrambled egg. When we heard that there is a new stall in Maxwell Food Centre selling Scrambled Egg Rice Bowls with delicious toppings, we decided to give it a try!
Dan Lao (蛋佬), true to its namesake, specialises in scrambled egg rice bowls. These delicious Scrambled Egg Rice Bowls are the creation of these young hawkers. Don’t underestimate them because of their age, they are actually former chefs at established restaurants!
The scrambled eggs are not overcooked, thus ensuring that they are silky and creamy. The egg is then placed over the rice, before lightly seasoning it with soy sauce and placing the toppings on it.
What We Ordered
There are many choices for the topping, including Tomato, Luncheon Meat, Chicken Cutlet, Char Siew and Prawn.

We ordered the Luncheon Meat Scrambled Egg Rice ($5.00). Served in cube form, the saltiness of the luncheon meat blended well with the eggy sweetness of the scrambled egg and the fluffy, white rice.
Photo: Char Siew Scrambled Egg Rice
We also ordered the Char Siew Scrambled Egg Rice ($6). The char siew was served in thin, lean slices, with a smoky, charred taste to it.

Finally, we strongly recommend that you try out the Chicken Cutlet Scrambled Egg Rice ($6), especially if it is your first visit to Dan Lao!
The chicken cutlet topping was really damn crispy. Enjoying mouthfuls of rice paired with scrambled egg, while occasionally biting into a piece of crispy chicken cutlet, was truly a heavenly experience!
However, if you don’t wish to have meat, you can try their Tomato Scrambled Egg Rice (S$4.50).
We also liked their house-made Chilli Crisp a lot. It was quite like Hae Bee Hiam, but crispier and sweeter.
New MRT Station @ Maxwell
The recently-opened Maxwell MRT Station (TEL 18) is right next to the food centre. Therefore, it is now more convenient to travel to Maxwell Food Centre.
Verdict
Dan Lao definitely offers delicious scrambled egg rice bowls at very affordable pricings ($4.50 - $7.00)! However, you may want to avoid the office crowd during lunch hour on weekdays.
